Doth Anyone — Riparian Zone
A river is more than water moving through a landscape.
It is habitat. Memory. Movement. Sound. A boundary between things that otherwise might never meet.
Riparian Zone is a collection of compositions built around that idea.
The project combines electronic music, ambient composition, sound design, and recordings made in the field—an attempt to translate the experience of being near rivers and waterways into sound.
But there is another side to the record.
Dams, sediment, development, extraction, and other forms of intervention have altered many of the systems these environments depend upon. Rather than making a conventional environmental “message” record, I wanted to let the music move between beauty and unease—to acknowledge both the extraordinary complexity of these places and what we stand to lose.
After decades of composing and designing sound for other projects, Riparian Zone became an opportunity to step back and listen differently.
This is that listening.
